Serving those in the long term care community.
The Board of Overseers assists the clergy and lay leaders of local congregations in the recruiting, training and support of volunteers to reach out with love and care to those who live, work and visit in long term care. We are 100+ volunteers dedicated to the spiritual and emotional support of convalescent hospital patients and their families. Together with the Chaplain, we minister in a service area of Alameda and Southern Alameda counties, Marin County and Western Contra Costa County. With the Chaplain and Board, we serve in many facilities in the East Bay.
Why?
Many residents of convalescent hospitals never have a visitor. Even those who do have occasional visits are in critical need of the emotional and spiritual support a friendly visitor from their faith community can best provide. This ministry serves patients in these facilities without regard to religious affiliation. This ministry has wide-spread grass roots support from more than a dozen Episcopal congregations, the Episcopal Diocese of California, and over 200 individual donors. It also has proven "staying power", having been founded over 26 years ago.
